It’s been a long time coming but here we are – a part of the world wide web, which means you can now click on things, read about us and the artisans we represent. Click, click, click – easy, right?
It wasn’t always like that.
Once upon a time, some twenty years ago, a young surf photographer found herself at a surf contest in Puerto Escondido/Oaxaca, and, watching through the lens as the Alebrije trophies were handed out to the winners, she squinted. Then zoomed. Then lowered the camera.
What is this?
Never had she ever seen such craftsmanship, such colors, such attention to detail.
This was her first encounter with woodcarving sculptures and they immediately begged the question: Where do I find more, where do I go from here?
It sent her on a never-ending quest of discovery that soon had her knocking on every door. Literally.
